Byline
Terms of service
Draft — under review. This text is not yet ratified.
Effective date: to be set at launch. This is a plain-language draft.
1. The service
Byline builds a work ledger from sources you connect: your GitHub activity and, if you install the collector, local repositories you register. Byline synthesizes draft entries, which you curate. You decide what is approved, what is exported, and what is published.
2. Your account
You sign in with GitHub. You are responsible for activity under your account. One person per account.
3. Your data and your ownership
- Your work data and your ledger entries are yours. You grant Byline a limited license to store and process them solely to provide the service.
- Byline never publishes on your behalf. Publishing and unpublishing are your explicit actions.
- You are responsible for what you connect. If an employment or confidentiality agreement restricts what you may share, choose your connected repos and tiers accordingly. The controls and the /data page explain exactly what leaves your machine; Byline does not provide legal advice.
- You can delete entries, remove repos, and unpublish at any time, in any subscription state.
4. Subscription and billing
- Personal tier: $10/month after a 14-day free trial. No card is required to start the trial.
- A lapsed subscription freezes synthesis and curation. It never removes your data and never takes down your public page. You can delete or unpublish at any time regardless of billing state.
- Cancel anytime; cancellation stops future charges. The refund policy is under review.
5. Public pages
Publishing places an entry on a public web page under your handle. Anyone with the link can read it. You warrant that you have the right to publish what you publish. We may remove public content that is unlawful or violates section 6, and we will tell you when we do.
6. Acceptable use
No unlawful content, no impersonation, no publishing another person's confidential information, no attempts to breach or overload the service, no scraping other users' pages at scale.
7. The collector
The collector runs on your machine and uploads only what its tier settings and preview show. You choose repos and tiers. Secret-pattern redaction runs on every upload but is not a guarantee; review previews.
8. Service changes and availability
Byline is provided as-is, without warranty. We aim for accuracy in synthesis, and every entry cites its sources — but drafts can be wrong; your approval step exists for that reason. The liability cap is under review.
9. Termination
You may close your account at any time; closure deletes your data promptly. We may suspend accounts that violate these terms, with notice and your export rights preserved except where the violation makes that impossible.
10. Changes to these terms
We will announce material changes by email and on the site at least 15 days before they take effect.
11. Governing law and contact
Governing law is under review. Contact: hello@withbyline.com.
